JACÓ BEACH
Our surf coaching lessons are generally taught on Jacó Beach, which is approximately 4km long with moderately good waves all year round. TThe surf here is best generally near high tide, which moves an hour everyday; therefore the timing of your lessons varies day to day. Playa Jacó is protected by mountains to the south, making this a forgiving and fun area popular with Costa Ricans from San Jose and across the country. Like other beaches in the area, Jacó’s water stays within a few degrees of 86°F year round.
PLAYA HERMOSA
Playa Hermosa is known as one of the most consistent beaches in the world with a length of approximately 8km and many breaks to choose from along the beach. Our surf coaches are often found training at Playa Hermosa in the morning and evenings and are happy to share their knowledge of the breaks with our experienced and true intermediate guests. Strong currents may discourage beginners, as waves can reach 2-10 feet high.
PLAYA ESTERILLOS
Esterillos is a beautiful beach with powerful currents and undertows which make it unsafe for swimming. The waves break pretty far out, but are fairly consistent and particularly good for long boarders. The swells come from the north, northwest and south, and the bottom is sand and rocks. At high tide in Esterillos Oeste, you can find La Sirena, a mermaid statue emerging from the sea by our favorite local surf spot!
PLAYA HERRADURA
Isla Herradura separates Jaco from Playa Herradura, and gives it enough protection to make it home to the area’s best flatwater SUP experience year-round. From June through November, there’s a beautiful long left-hand wave off Herradurra Island that’s fantastic for both surfing and SUP surfing. The town of Herradurra itself is a resort town home to the beautiful Marina Los Suenos, the heart of the Costa Rican sport fishing industry.
