New Sustainable Villa Available for Buyouts or Weeklong Surfing and Wellness.

Costa Rica (June 24, 2024) – Surf Synergy resort - located on the central Pacific coast of Costa Rica - announces the opening of Casa Cielo, a new “resort within a resort”. Nestled atop a lush hill with sweeping vistas of the Pacific Ocean and the surrounding jungle, this architectural wonder presents a fusion of modern luxury and natural splendor. With expansive al fresco living spaces, a breathtaking black tile infinity-edge pool, and unobstructed ocean and sunset views, Casa Cielo is a hilltop oasis.

Unfolding across 10,000 square feet of living space, the Villa captivates with its expansive al fresco spaces, meticulously crafted to harmonize with the natural surroundings. The indoor living space graciously flows into more than 5,400 square feet of outdoor decks and a dramatic 775-square-foot infinity pool adorned with runway lighting and surrounded by lush tropical landscaping including lemon trees, orange trees, and other fragrant botanicals.

Designed by longtime hospitality leader Richard Dusseau, who envisioned the surf and wellness retreat of his dreams, Casa Cielo redefines luxury with its fusion of coastal modern sophistication and retro bohemian charm. Guestrooms are finished with polished concrete warmed by custom-made teak beds, and ceilings made of local sustainable laurelwood, rattan lighting, and artisan textiles. The artwork selected is an ode to 60s-era surfing with vintage photography and classic covers of surfer magazines.

Guestrooms

Casa Cielo includes six well-appointed guestrooms and suites as well as two bunkrooms. The villa accommodates up to 26 people as a private buyout - or expands Surf Synergy’s capacity from 12 to 38 guests. All guestrooms include private landscaped patios with views to the Pacific, comfortable lounge seating and open-air garden rainforest showers, designed with local green glass tiles.

Other facilities

The Game Room features a sectional “cloud sofa” with seating for 16 people, a 75” television for streaming services, movies and video analysis, a game table for six, a ping-pong table, and a refreshment bar with cocktail and lounge seating.

The kitchen features a six-burner gas stove, double oven, silent dishwasher, microwave, large refrigerator/freezer, and an adjacent butler’s kitchen with a separate pantry, refrigerator, sink, and dishwasher. The dining room table is a locally sourced single slab of live-edge Guanacaste wood and seats 16 guests comfortably. A dedicated beverage bar features an espresso machine, reverse osmosis purified water, hot water tap, and wine cooler.

Sustainability and Landscaping

With sustainability as an integral part of Surf Synergy’s operations, Casa Cielo is fueled by nearly 100% on-site solar power. A biodigester processes all compostable waste, from kitchen scraps to human waste. The biodigestor then turns waste into compost and methane, which is used to heat hot water.

Surf Synergy crafted a captivating landscaping plan throughout the seven-acre property, prioritizing a rich assortment of native flora while tastefully incorporating select non-native specimens renowned for their exceptional beauty. Drawing inspiration from permaculture principles, the design is functional and aesthetically pleasing, addressing the practical requirements of guests including shade provision, privacy enhancement, spatial definition, and thoughtful management of foot traffic. The four pillars of symbiotic agriculture encompass food, medicine, building materials, and fauna habitat. This approach reflects a harmonious blend of ecological mindfulness and human-centered design, ensuring that the outdoor environment not only thrives but also enriches daily living experiences.

Amenities

Guestroom amenities are designed to enhance the experience and include 690 thread count sheets, personal refrigerators that will be stocked with a guests’ choice of beverages prior to their arrival, Chorreadores (traditional Costa Rican pour-over coffee makers), local bath amenities including ocean-safe sunscreen, and reusable oversized water bottles. Surf Synergy sources springwater from a nearby organic farm with water available throughout the villa and the entire resort.

Private buyouts

Casa Cielo is available for buyouts for up to 26 guests who can have exclusive use of the villa property. Prices for buyouts are $$95,000 for 26 guests. Pricing includes the Surf Synergy full immersion program, all of the services and amenities, and a private chef to create custom meal plans.

An all-inclusive stay at Casa Cielo starts at $3,325 per person in a private guestroom or $2,765 per person in the bunkrooms. Seven-night pricing is based on double occupancy. Solo travelers are welcome.

Surf/Wellness Weeks - An All-Inclusive Approach

Immersive Surf/SUP Weeks

A Surf Synergy immersive week includes seven-nights’ accommodations, three healthy family-style meals daily from their culinary team, which incorporate local produce and Costa Rican specialties, five personalized one-to-one surf/SUP lessons with expert bi-lingual coaches, including all surf/SUP equipment, breathwork training, land-based training, one ice bath, two complimentary massages, daily yoga designed to complement surfing, professional photography with daily video analysis, a mid-week adventure excursion, and airport transfers from San Jose airport (SJO), located only 90-minutes from Surf Synergy.

The Resort

Located on a lush seven-acre property one mile from the Jacó surfing beach, Surf Synergy is a secluded boutique resort with recently re-designed hillside bungalows. Chicly appointed guestrooms have private covered patios with hammocks, garden rainforest showers, refrigerators, and tea/coffee makers (chorreador – a traditional Costa Rican pour-over system). There are no TVs in the guestrooms, as a Surf Synergy immersion week is about connecting with oneself and others.

Public areas include Shaka House, a recently redesigned indoor-outdoor living area with coastal mid-century modern décor, a coffee and juice bar, and expansive patios with a new infinity fountain, and a pool. The resort incorporates numerous spaces for wellness and relaxing, including the yoga/massage pavilion, and an open-air training deck.

Beaches for Surf/SUP

A key differentiator for Surf Synergy is access to different nearby beaches, each of which has different characteristics based on ocean conditions to give the best chance of perfect waves for each guest’s surfing ability. Surf Synergy’s location on the central Pacific Coast of  Costa Rica enjoys a prime warm-water location for teaching Level 1 to Level 4 surfers from novice (never-ever) and beginners to intermediate and advanced surfers. Jacó Beach, a 2.5-mile-long volcanic sand beach known for consistent beginner waves year-round, is only one mile from the resort. Playa Hermosa, one of the most renowned breaks in Costa Rica for intermediate/advanced surfers is only 10 minutes away. Other nearby beaches where coaches take guests based on experience levels and conditions include Playa Esterillos, a seven-mile-long beach with the second longest left-surfing-break in Costa Rica, and Playa Herradura.

Dining

A Surf Synergy stay includes three healthy meals daily prepared by Surf Synergy’s chef incorporating local produce and seafood. Complimentary beverages include fresh coconuts-on-demand, artesian spring water from a nearby spring, fresh juices made from local fruit including tamarind, passionfruit, and blackberry, smoothies, elixirs, local Costa Rican dry-roasted coffee, and a selection of teas.

Future Developments at Surf Synergy

Surf Synergy is in the process of a redevelopment that includes the following:

Phase One completed and Phase Two by September 2024 - Regenerative agriculture plan that includes Phase One - planting 1,000 more trees and plants (completed) on the seven-acre property. Phase Two includes a chicken coop for fresh eggs, a two-acre organic garden, and a greenhouse that will provide greens, local squash, beets, herbs, and other produce.
Fall 2024– A new Skate Surf Park that will allow coaches to accelerate guests’ learning curve with specially designed skateboards that track like surfboards. (Skateboards are available for purchase for guests who want to continue their training after their Surf Synergy week.)
Early Summer 2025– A new wellness center will open to expand and enhance the wellness offerings and focus on functional well-being. The wellness center will expand upon existing wellness programs designed for recovery from surfing, incorporating an ice bath/sauna/massage circuit, as well as other restorative treatments.

Community Impact

Surf Synergy includes opportunities for their team and guests to participate in a meaningful way through volunteerism – including beach clean-up, donations – such as surfboards for local youth, and hosted pop-up markets that support local artisans and vendors.

Jacó Impact is a community-based collective creating alliances for local impact in Jacó. They advocate for environmental and social awareness by providing an array of opportunities and activities for all members of the community regardless of income or status.
